Torino is the capital of Piemonte
Region, whose territory occupies the west-northern
area of Italy, close to the French border.
Capital of Savoy Kingdomn, first capital
of re-united Italy in 1861, Torino is crowned
by the magnificent Savoy's Royal Residencies
(Venaria Reale, Rivoli, Moncalieri, Stupinigi);
its historical city-centre, dominated by
the Mole Antonelliana, shows elegant squares,
baroque buildings, long arcades, typical
cafes and restaurants. |
A cultural centre
with the Egyptian Museum (one of the richest
in the World) and the National Cinema Museum,
2008 World capital of Design, Torino lives
also a strong passion for sports, demonstrated
by the success of the Winter Olympic Games
in 2006 and of the Winter Universiade in
2007. A city of solid industrial tradition,
Torino boasts also its food-and-wine belief,
whose shiniest stars are chocolate ("Gianduiotti"
and "bicerin" are a kind of symbols
there), wine and the aperitivo, who was
born here 200 years ago and now is considered
a leading actor of the movida by the Po
riverside. |
